"Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.” – Maya Angelou
It is vital to understand that all experiences are not the same, all people do not learn and grow in the same way or at the same speeds. In a society that focuses on being “normal” and being a certain way, it is important to listen, be willing to observe, adapt, and be wrong, if necessary, in order to learn and do better. It is my goal to learn from you and develop a plan and skills with you in the way that you learn best. In my world no one is “typical” and there is no “cookie cutter” design that fits everyone. I want to help and in order to help I have to be willing to listen to understand what you’re experiencing.
I graduated from Western Michigan University in 2014 with a Master’s in Social Work. I have been working in the field for 9 years. My career has provided me with a broad range of opportunities and with each of them I have evolved. I have been challenged to learn, grow, step out of my comfort zone, and step up to my potential. I am eager to continue to learn and help others do the same.
I employ a variety of methods to help meet goals. Holistic, mindfulness, CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), solution focused practice, and Reality therapy are some of the variety of tools I utilize. I believe in listening and showing compassion, understanding emotional and interpersonal reactions, wellness, resilience, and prevention skills to help clients. It is important to establish mutual respect, authenticity, genuineness, and acceptance to empower clients.
“Fight for the things that you care about. But do it in a way that will lead others to join you.” – Ruth Bader Ginsberg
