Hello! I’m Kate Miller and I’ve been a Licensed Master’s Level Social Worker within the clinical and school settings since graduating from Grand Valley State University in 2006. I have extensive experience working therapeutically with children, teens, and young adults. I recognize that we are living in a world where taking care of our mental health has never been more critical. As a working mother of three children, one with special needs and disabilities, I’ve experienced first-hand the negative effects chronic stress can have on one’s mental, emotional, and physical well-being. We often don’t have control over preventing life’s obstacles, such as trauma, abuse, grief and loss, mental or physical illness, disabilities, or unexpected major life changes. However, learning to shape how we think about and respond to these events in a healthy manner can reduce the negative impact on our mental and emotional health, increase our resiliency, and create a renewed feeling of empowerment and hopefulness about the future.
Life is a journey with continuous opportunities to grow and develop into our best self. It would be my hope to support you through the therapeutic process by providing a safe and relational environment where you or your child will feel at ease. The simple exercise of exploring our thoughts, feelings, worries, and needs with a trusted person has a powerful and healing impact on one’s emotional well-being and state of mind. I seek to adapt my practice interventions to the unique needs of my clients, and I value the client’s insights and self-determination when defining therapeutic goals. My specialized models of practice include, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Mindfulness, Solution Focused Therapy, and Trauma Informed Practices, which I have found to enhance the therapeutic process and support clients in meeting their individualized goals.
