ACCEPTING NEW PATIENTS

Since childhood, I have been good at conversation. This ability caused many of my peers

growing up to consult with me about their problems and circumstances they were dealing with. During this time, I did not understand where something like this could lead me in the future. I had teachers who would tell me that I would be either a preacher, a lawyer, or a counselor. Growing up in an African American home, our culture did not recognize mental health or explore counseling services. However, my views as an adult changed my desire to help others began to increase as I became aware of my struggles being an African American male. I was also connected to those who had experienced similar trauma, or have known of the history of African Americans as it relates to society as a whole. I needed to be a part of creating a change.

I have a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, a Master’s degree in Professional Counseling, and a Post-Master’s degree in Substance Abuse and Addictions Counseling from Grand Canyon University. Working with students in the school setting as a Behavior Specialist and Graduation Coach has made me want to work with individuals, couples, and families. I believe that if the family is in shambles, the children will be affected. In addition to that, I have been coaching football for 16 years. My experiences with people, and being family oriented have encouraged me to work as a counselor.

My interest is to work with individuals, couples, and families to help them to see perspectives

and walk with them as they look to create a clear view of who they are and their purpose. I use a variety of counseling approaches (CBT, Motivational Interviewing, and Solution-Based Therapy, etc.) while helping to get to a specific goal. I specialize in working with those who struggle with anxiety, depression, grief, communication, conflict management, men’s problems, self-esteem, family conflict, and substance use, along with others. I look forward to taking a journey alongside of you while you move toward success!
