ACCEPTING NEW PATIENTS
Hello! Therapy, under the right conditions, can be one of the most rewarding experiences a person can have. People seek therapy for all sorts of reasons. Regardless of the reasons, it’s important to find the right fit. Every client deserves a therapist who is attentive, empathetic, compassionate, respectful, authentic and knowledgeable.
I have a master’s in clinical mental health counseling from Western Michigan University. I have worked with individuals facing depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, traumatic brain injuries (TBI’s), chronic pain, anxiety, bipolar one disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder, and general life stressors (adjustment disorders). I have also worked with couples whose challenges include difficulty communicating, navigating stage of life changes, and being parents to disabled children. I also have experience with working with individuals who have been incarcerated, both individually and in a group. I work out of a cognitive behavioral therapeutic lens, incorporating principles from dialectical behavioral therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy, as well as mindfulness.
As far as couples counseling goes, I have completed Level 2 training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy. I have also used the Imago method. I believe in working with clients to help them reach their goals in a warm, open, safe, and nonjudgmental environment. No two people have the exact same experience, which is why it’s important that therapy is a collaborative effort.
As someone who is a full-time wheelchair user, I have learned the importance of not only collaborating with others, but also the importance of having hope, working towards one’s goals and facing life’s challenges head on. It is important for all parties involved to have an active hand in any form of helping relationship. Therapy is not only what each person brings to the table, it is also what the patient and therapist choose to make it, whether you end up working with me, or another provider.
