NOT CURRENTLY ACCEPTING NEW PATIENTS

My name is Amber Bouwkamp. I have been practicing in the Human Services and Social work profession since 2009. While working in the field, I earned my Bachelor’s degree in human services in 2012 from Baker College and my Master’s degree in Social Work in 2017 from Western Michigan University.

Throughout my career, I have worked as an advocate for domestic violence and sexual assault survivors, which turned into a passion of mine. I have also worked as a hospice social worker where I was privileged to build relationships with terminally ill patients and their amazing families during their most vulnerable times. I have had other work experience with those experiencing debilitating mental illness, in the community setting. Lastly, I have been enjoying the transition into a clinical therapist role with CCWM, since January of 2021.

My approach to treatment is person-centered. I understand and respect that everyone has a set of unique dynamics and needs. I prefer to use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) while focusing on each individual’s strengths and how to use those strengths in solving problems. My goal is to assist my clients in processing their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, while allowing them to lead their therapeutic journey. Clients know themselves better than anyone else, so it is important for them to learn to trust themselves and their instincts. Personal understanding and growth are very empowering and gives one the strength to move forward during and after therapy.

I look forward to meeting you and starting your therapeutic journey, in a safe, laid back, comfortable, and non-judgmental environment.

“Daring greatly means the courage to be vulnerable. It means to show up and be seen. To ask for what you need. To talk about how you’re feeling. To have hard conversations”- Brene Brown.
