Frequently Asked Questions

  • What should I expect at my first appointment?

We know that walking into a new office to meet with a provider can be a little overwhelming. We make every effort to ensure your experience at Counseling Center of West Michigan is a positive one.  At your first appointment, you will check in with our front desk receptionist who will greet you warmly and ensure all paperwork has been completed (all intake paperwork is required in advance as shared upon scheduling). If you have a copay or are a self-paying patient, we will collect the payment due at the beginning of your visit. Each of our lobbies are equipped with coffee bars, so feel free to help yourself to coffee, tea, or hot chocolate.

  • Do you have a provider that can help with...

We are proud to offer our community access to over 250 licensed providers. We truly believe we have the best of the best in terms of providers here at Counseling Center of West Michigan. Diversity in age, background, culture, race, sexual orientation, licensing, specialty area, experience, and clinical style ensure that our clinical staff looks a lot like our community and that is important because we believe it allows us to best place you with a provider who you can build a strong therapeutic relationship with.

  • Is counseling right for me?

Although we believe that everyone can benefit from counseling, we understand that the idea of sitting with a stranger and telling your story can be intimidating. If you would like to meet one of our providers before committing to a full session, many offer a free 15 minute consultation.

  • What are your hours?

It is important to us that you are able to schedule appointments during times that are convenient for you, as such, each of our locations are open Monday through Friday 8am-8pm and Saturdays 8am-2pm by appointment only.

  • What is virtual therapy or Telehealth?

Telehealth is an option for those who do not have transportation, prefer the privacy of their own homes, or do not live near one of our campuses. Rather than have a face-to-face session, you would speak with your provider through video chat or a phone call. Most insurances cover Telehealth. To learn more click here.

  • Can I leave my children in the lobby during my appointment?

Your safety and the safety of your family is very important to us. With this in mind, children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by an adult in our lobbies at all times.
