Hello, my name is Jake Fields and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. I have been working as a licensed therapist for about 6 years. I received my Bachelors of Science in Human Services, with an emphasis in Criminal Justice from Grace Christian University in 2015. In 2020, I graduated from Liberty University with my Masters of Education in School Counseling. During my time as a student with Liberty, I worked on a college campus, serving college-aged adults. In my last semester of my graduate program, I served as an intern at Sparta Middle School and Elementary School, working in their counseling department. After graduating from Liberty, I worked for 5 and a half years at my local CMH (county mental health), gaining immense experience in working with children, adolescents, adults and families. I started working part time for Counseling Center of West Michigan back in October of 2023, and have thoroughly enjoyed the work that I do with adults, couples and adolescents. Now I am working full time for Counseling Center of West Michigan, and look forward to many years to come.
All of these experiences have given me a very wide scope of practice when it comes to the concerns that client's seek therapy for. Currently, I am serving adults and couples, ages 18-40. That said, I also really enjoy family therapy and understanding the family dynamic, which can involve work with children and adolescents as well. I have an immense amount of experience working with concerns such as: Depression, anxiety, ADHD, relationship dynamics, PTSD, ADHD, ODD, low self-esteem, leadership skills, substance use, pornography addiction, and more.
Throughout my experiences, I have found that clients see me as a very relational and personable therapist. Clients find my therapeutic approach to be one that makes them feel like they are talking to someone they can trust and be themselves around. My philosophy with therapy is that I believe all people are capable of changing and improving their lives. If you have therapy services with me, my hope and goal is that you utilize the skills discussed in sessions, and that this leads to you having a greater sense of control over your life.
A little about me personally, I absolutely love the outdoors. My hobbies consist of: Hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, kayaking, and many other outdoor activities. I am a Christian, and love to be able to incorporate my faith into my practice when I am given the opportunity or when clients request a faith-based approach. I love many different genres of music, and also love to incorporate music into therapy as well. Family is everything to me. I have a wife and two children. Being a parent has given me some hands-on experience in parenting that also serves to help clients experiencing the challenges of parenting.
Thank you for taking the time to read my bio, and if you end up being a client of mine, I look forward to meeting you!
