About Me
"Be kind and have courage" - Anne Frank.
Engulfed in these powerful words is an inspirational meaning that I try to live my own life by. My hope is that I will empower my clients to also adopt these words and their meaning as they live their lives. I have been practicing therapy for 14+ years, having earned my degree at Grand Valley State University in 2006. I provide therapy for both mental health and substance use disorders, and enjoy working with both teens and adults. I grew up in a really small, rural part of the state where everybody knows or is related to everyone else. I think growing up this way has helped me in becoming more welcoming and open to creating safe spaces for people who enter my life. When I am not working, I am usually with my husband and daughter, playing at the park, swimming at the lake or hiking. I believe that making time for self care is hugely important to everyone and is something I strongly encourage for everyone I meet. My passions in therapy involve helping people to feel empowered to build better lives for themselves (whatever that looks like for each person), improve relationships and heal from past hurts or traumas.
What You Can Expect
As a therapist, I take a laid back approach and let the client lead where we go in session. However, I welcome feedback and am willing to take a more active and direct approach as needed. I value honesty in therapy and believe that it is a two way street between therapist and client. We will work together in building long lasting tools that will be valuable not just for everyday life, but for your future as well. Being vulnerable and opening up to someone new isn't an easy process and change can be scary. I value your courage and our time together in whatever capacity you are ready for.
