ACCEPTING NEW PATIENTS

If you are looking at my page, you are thinking about making a change. Looking for a therapist means you have already started your journey. Great Work! There are many different approaches to therapy. My approach is collaborative and active. You and I will partner. We will combine my knowledge and your knowledge to find solutions that really work for you. The time you are spending, and the work you are doing in therapy should be valuable to you and should advance your goals. My hope is that you will walk away from each session with a new idea, strategy, or plan that really makes a difference in your life. I am sex positive and poly friendly. I am comfortable working with people from a range of religious traditions with a special interest in religious transitions and people who lack religious belief.

Training, Certifications, and Experience

I have more than 12 years of experience. I have a BS in Philosophy from Central Michigan University

(2004) and an MA in Counseling from Cornerstone University (2009). I am a Licensed Professional

Counselor (LPC), Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC), and a certified supervisor (CCS; ACS). I have experience working with adults and adolescents. I have training in:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Self Change

Motivational Interviewing

Dialectical Behavior Therapy

Cognitive Processing Therapy (trauma)

Prolonged Exposure (trauma)

Cognitive Therapy for Addictions

I have worked in homeless shelters, outpatient clinics, a psychiatric hospital, and jails. I have helped

people with addictions, anxiety, mood problems, trauma, and criminal justice involvement. I have

knowledge and am comfortable working with populations that may have life practices and beliefs that differ from majority groups. Specifically, I have knowledge and experience relevant to people who practice non-monogamy, and to those who are struggling with, or lack religious belief.

Approach to Therapy

My primary approach to therapy is often referred to as Case Conceptualization Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. What this means:

Therapy is collaborative. Your expertise is essential.

Our understanding of the problem and our approach will be constantly evolving throughout therapy as we better understand you and what works for you.

Our focus will be on making things better now, in the present.

We will explore the past to better understand you and the present problem.

Thoughts and beliefs will be essential to the work we are doing. Our beliefs are the filter between

our raw experience and the things that we feel and do.

Our work will be very active. This will include action plans that you will experiment with in your life between sessions.

Finally, You will learn to be your own therapist. Successful therapy means that you will walk away

with new perspectives, new skills, and new habits that will support you moving forward. Once you

master these, you will no longer need a therapist. You will be your own therapist.

Next Steps

Thank you for taking the time to read about me. If I am not the type of therapist you are looking for, keep searching. You should find the right fit for you. If I seem like a good fit, reach out today. I am excited to meet you and join you as you continue pursuing your goals.
