ACCEPTING NEW PATIENTS
Hi! My name is Mason, and I’m so happy to be an asset to your upcoming journey. One of the biggest steps to receiving support is taking that step towards it, and I am thrilled to be able to walk with you through that journey and support you through every step of it. :)
To give a bit of an introduction of who I am, I am currently a Master’s student enrolled at Western Michigan University down in Kalamazoo. I originally began my journey by receiving my bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in sociology in 2022. I continued my journey as a Bronco receiving my master’s in the Counselor Education program, specifically in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling track. In my undergraduate years, I spent some time in both the clinical and behavioral realms. I held an internship at Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services where I was able to gain some experience in delivering psychological assessments, and spent a chunk of my time scoring and understanding just how the exams were administered. On top of that, I completed a year of practicum in behavior analysis where I completed tasks relating to encouraging and introducing adaptive behaviors for individuals with developmental disabilities, primarily in job sites to help individuals secure full employment, and in school-based settings as well. A lot of my experience revolved around practicing skills such as conducting functional behavioral assessments (FBAs), using a “token economy” in a real-world setting, and also teaching new skills to clients, as well as practicing self-management and self-evaluation. As my journey continued in helping others, I realized that I had an inner passion for finding work that allows for supporting others and finding strong alternatives to help individuals succeed and feel well in their day-to-day. So, I decided to take the route of continuing my education to be a practicing mental health counselor! I recently completed my practicum experience at Western Michigan University, where I was able to gain a breadth of approaches on how to use new techniques in session, while also getting a good feel for how group and individual counseling works. When I was practicing group therapy, I expanded my knowledge base with other populations as I practiced co-facilitating group sessions in a recovery center in Jackson. Having exposure to these different populations and settings, I am always eager to learn more.
When I am not practicing, I find enjoyment in many different hobbies such as listening to music (can talk all day about it!), going on road trips and seeing new places, hanging out with friends, and meeting new people wherever possible. I am an exploratory individual who is always open to something new and unique. It’s always been a passion of mine to be able to meet new individuals, and learn what makes people, people! That said, I’ve always believed in an approach of a “clean slate” for every client, recognizing that every individual has their own story and their background in this big world. I am so excited to be able to learn more about yours and what makes you, you! Within our space, I intend to create a safe, non-judgmental, and empathetic space for you to discuss what has been faced and where you would like to go. I am thrilled to be on this path with you, and look forward to meeting and supporting you through it all!
