ACCEPTING NEW PATIENTS

Hello, my name is Melissa and I’m so glad you are considering therapy. Talking with someone who is safe, caring, non-judgmental, and unbiased can go a long way towards helping you feel better. Reaching out for support is often the first step on your journey towards healing and health. Give yourself credit for being willing to begin this process!

I like helping my people understand why they feel and think like they do, process and cope with whatever is causing the pain, and work towards a better quality of life. I like to help my people learn and build on their strengths. I like to offer resources and education that can provide lasting support after your work with me is done. It helps sometimes to explore how your brain works and some of the thoughts you have that can increase your pain. It can also help to talk about your history, family, and other significant relationships or events to process what has happened and integrate it into your life in a healthy way going forward.

I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Social Work from Calvin University. I attended University of Michigan where I received my Masters degree in Social Work. I’ve got a lot of experience working with children, teens, and adults from all walks of life. It’s really fulfilling to be able to help people feel better and learn to enjoy life again. I find people to be fascinating and I love learning everyone’s unique story.

I’ve worked with many people who have experienced trauma. I have experience with individuals who are struggling with important relationships although I do not see couples or families. Helping parents help their children is also important to me. I like working with children and teens and encourage parents to be as involved as is needed in that process.
