ACCEPTING NEW PATIENTS

My name is Mennard Kendrick, and I hail from southern Michigan. Although I have traveled and lived in several areas around the U.S. I ended up coming back to Michigan and making it my home again, 30 years ago. I am a family man. My wife and I live locally and enjoy living in West Michigan. I am a graduate Grand Valley State University where I was able to earn a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, a master’s degree in public administration and another master’s degree in social work. I am fully licensed to practice clinically in the state of Michigan. Go Lakers!!!!

I love watching people change and grow as result of the therapeutic process. I believe that people are individuals and are unique. Therefore, I do not believe in or utilize a “one size fits all” approach when it comes to providing therapy. I believe in utilizing an eclectic approach which requires borrowing different philosophies and strategies from various psychological theories and shaping them to fit the uniqueness of each client’s individual needs and personality. This client centered approach has allowed me to guide clients to discovering the root cause of their mental health/substance abuse issues and then addressing the issue at the root. When a weed is not cut down but instead is pulled up from the root it regrowth is less likely. Oftentimes the same is true with both mental and substance abuse issues.

I have worked with people across the broad span of humanity covering various ages, nationalities, ethnicities, and income levels. My clinical experiences has given the pleasure of working outpatient, inpatient, residential and home-based environments. My early career involved working visually impaired, multi-handicapped and intellectually challenged children ranging in age from 5 years of age to 17 years of age in southern California. I also spent years working at a residential program working with emotionally impaired children and children referred to the program from the criminal justice system.

Over the past 14 years, much of my time has been spent working adults who struggled with various mental health and or substance use disorder issues. I have experience utilizing cognitive behavior therapy, strengths-based perspectives, solution focused therapy, motivational interviewing, the empowerment approach and more. I've worked with a variety of individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, PTSD, trauma, stress, and substance use disorder as well.

I am looking forward to working with individuals who want to address issues that have become barriers and obstacles that have gotten in the way of living a joyous and happy life.
